All the Indians are eagerly waiting the mobile operators to launch their 4G services. There has always been a race between the mobile operators of India especially Reliance and Airtel. But recently the CEO of Airtel, Mr. Sanjay Kapoor has confirmed that the company will be launching its 4G services in Kolkata (West Bengal)this month. This will make Airtel the first telecom operator in the country to provide the latest 4G services.
The 4G technology is expected to provide download speeds of around 100 Megabits/second on the move and can go up to 1 Gigabits/second at a particular location. The launch of 4G services will have a huge impact in the country. 4G technology promises 10 times faster Internet than the current 3G services in India. 4G will provide faster mobile web access, high-definition mobile TV and other rich multimedia content even while moving.
The company was allocated 20 Mhz of BWA spectrum in 2.3 Ghz frequency band which is considered the best frequency range for transmitting signals for running 4G services.
In 2010, Airtel had won the spectrum for high-speed wireless broadband service (Broadband Wireless Access spectrum) in four telecom circles namely - Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka. Airtel had to pay 3,314.36 crore INR.
It is said that China’s ZTE Corp is going to assist Airtel as the official network vendor partner for the Kolkata circle. Airtel has already entered a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks for Maharashtra. Airtel is likely to bring LTE services in Pune, Chandigarh and Bangalore very soon.
